"Secret and Dangerous - Night of the Son Tay P.O.W. Raid" 

Presented by Bill Guenon, author, lecturer and  Air Commando Pilot - Inside the Son Tay P.O.W. Raid.


Bill Guenon has spent the majority of his aviation career covering many facets of the transportation industry for both military and civil applications on a global basis.  He has served in the U.S. Air Force as a command pilot, senior air traffic controller, and team leader for the USAF ATC analysis program. A career highlight was Bill's participation in the 1970 Son Tay P.O.W. Raid which is detailed in the book "Secret and Dangerous - Night of Son Tay P.O.W. Raid," a thrilling eyewitness account of the secret humanitarian mission. During his Aviation Adventures presentation, Bill will share his experience as one of the air commando pilots who flew the amazing 'C-130' aircraft on the edge of a stall, at night, while leading six helicopters in close formation deep into North Vietnam for a daring rescue attempt of POWs being held in the shadows of Hanoi.

"Orion Project Update" 

Presented by Kelvin Manning, Orion project manager NASA




Enjoy a fascinating presentation by Kelvin Manning, Chief, Orion Crew Exploration Vehicle Division, KSC Constellation Project Office, NASA Kennedy Space Center. After nearly 15 years of seeing space shuttles up close, Kelvin is working with NASA in the development of a new spacecraft targeted for the moon. For Kelvin, it is only the most recent challenge in a career that has spanned 25 years and seen aerospace from a variety of different perspectives. Come and learn about the development of the current space program and the wonderful adventures ahead.

"Silver Wings and Civil Rights: The Fight to Fly" 

Presented by Jon Anderson, Award-winning documentary filmmaker and teacher



In observance of Black History Month, filmmaker Jon Anderson will show excerpts from his award-winning documentary “Silver Wings and Civil Rights: The Fight to Fly” and talk with the audience about his work.  The documentary uses video of interviews with Tuskegee Airmen to tell the story and the struggles of the first African-American men to serve as pilots in the United State Air Force. Combined with historical photos, the stories make for a very powerful presentation.

 

This program is being offered free of charge to the public through a generous grant awarded by the Florida Humanities Council the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

"Upon Silver Wings " 

Presented by Carol Ann Garrett, author and pilot


In observance of Women’s History Month the Florida Air Museum invites you to experience the fascinating achievements of Carol Ann Garratt as she talks about making her dream of an around-the-world flight a reality. She dedicated the trip to her mother, Marie, who died of ALS/Lou Gehrig’s disease and one of Carol Ann’s objectives was to increase awareness of this devastating disease and to raise donations for research. So far, she has succeeded in raising thousands of dollars and 100% of all book proceeds goes directly to researching a cure for this disease.
